(2)Is there¼an'a'that?这句有省略，等于 is there anyone who，because of honest poverty，hangs his head，and allthat?其中 honest＝honourable，光明正大的; hings＝hangs；and allthat：如此等等。
(3)guinea'sstamp：金币(畿尼，值二十一先令)上的花纹。
(4)gowd：gold 的变体。
(5)hamely fare：粗茶淡饭。hamely 是 homely 的变体。
(6)hoddin grey：灰色粗呢衣(贫苦农民所穿)。hoddin= hodden。

(8)tinsel show；华而不实的外表。
(9)tho'e'er sae poor：though(he should be)ever so poor，不管怎么穷。Sea 是 so 的变体。

(18)makabelted knight，封人为爵士。mak 是 make 的变体，belted：系带子的(表示有爵位)。

(21)he mauna fa'that＝he must not claimthat，他得不到那种权力。意谓君王虽能封官，但对好人无能为力。

(27)It'scomin＝It'scoming，这正在变成现实。It 指下行开始的That从句。
