Kammerflimmer Kollektief is the pet project of German feller Thomas Weber, and now he and his many co-conspirators are on their sixth album (seventh if you count the compilation of remixes) and they proceed to take their blend of jazz, electronics and exploratory experimental music further than ever before. No doubt influenced by the mass of intriguing remixers they became hooked up with on the epic remix project, Weber and friends have ended up with an album which sounds notably more 'electronic' than their previous works. Their percussion specifically has become glitchy and compressed, something like Telefon Tel Aviv for want of a better reference, and in context with the rest of their sound it really works. The band throw noisier and noisier sounds into the mix ever so slightly until the album's final track 'Subnarkotisch' explodes like a symphonic cacophony of harmonic distortion, and this is where they break free of their shackles and really prick my ears up. 'Jinx' is an accomplished album and very enjoyable but occasionally I want the band to let go of the reigns and just allow themselves to rock out...
