上海市儿童福利院是一所社会福利慈善机构，目前在院16岁以下的残疾弃婴孤儿600余名，有300余名工作人员， 其中：医生护士40名，教师20名，护理人员170名。在儿童中有107名正在接受不同程度的教育，其中35名儿童 在社区的常规学校就读，另外72名儿童在福利院内的“真禅学校”就读，今年还有三名同学考上了大学。在医 疗康复方面，今年有540名儿童接受了康复训练，达到在院儿童总数的90%，其中20名儿童接受了手术治疗。
在对院内儿童进行教育和康复的同时，上海市儿童福利院在三年前开展了 孤残儿童家庭寄养工作，并邀请英国专家目前，一所新的上海市儿童福利 院正在建造中，并将于明年4月竣工。届时将有能力为孤残儿童提供更好的 医疗康复、住宿设施。
The Shanghai Children's Welfare Center is a social welfare charity organization. At the moment we have more than 600 disabled orphans, all aged below 16 years. There are 300 staff members. Among them there are 40 doctors and nurses, 20 teachers, and 170 nursing staff.
All the staff is very dedicated to the wellbeing of the children. We have 107 children who go to the school: there are 35 children studying in the local community school.
while the other 72 are studying in the Zhen Chan School inside the center. This year, 3 children successfully passed the entry examination of universities. There are 540 children receiving rehabilitation treatment. That accounts for 90% of the total children. Twenty children have had operations this year.
Besides taking care of all the children, the center is trying to find foster families for them. Three years ago, a new foster project started to provide foster cares, for which a British consultant, Mr. Robert Glover was invited. So far, 300 children have been placed into foster families, and the number is increasing.
A new welfare children's center, which is going to be completed in next April, is under construction in the suburb area of Shanghai. With this new center, better cares and medical treatment could be provided to the children.
上海市儿童福利院是一所隶属于上海市民政局的全额拨款事业单位，是本市唯一的一所以孤残儿童养育为主的慈善福利机构，历来受到市委、市府及社会各界人士的关心和支持。其前身是1911年由天主教教会创办的育婴堂，1956年更名为上海市儿童福利院。
儿童福利院是儿童的乐园，处处体现以儿童为本的理念，充满童趣和温馨家园气息，人与环境自然和谐。儿童生活、教育、康复、娱乐等设施齐全，为孤残儿童提供照料、教育、康复、医疗等服务奠定了良好的物质基础。
2001年10月，上海市儿童福利院整体搬迁至闵行区现址。全院占地面积72000㎡。新院在整体设计上处处体现以儿童为本的理念，儿童生活、教育、保健、康复、娱乐等现代化设施一应俱全。在软件配套方面，机构通过建章立制、完善管理，人员引进和大力开展员工培训等途径不断提高队伍的整体水平，以确保机构的可持续发展。同时，通过对外交流，开展中外合作项目和涉外业务，逐步建立一套运行机制。
长期以来，在市委、市政府的关怀下，在社会各界的支持和全体员工的努力下，儿福院各项工作在不断发展，孤残儿童的生存权、保护权、发展权和参与权得到了更好的维护，也赢得了很好的国际声誉，充分展现了上海在打造世界级城市进程中儿童福利的发展水平。
