在一个名叫Whoville 的小镇, 人们都生活得恬静愉快, 也都很喜欢过圣诞节, 除了一个人，这个人就是"圣诞怪杰", 他是一个暴躁的绿色怪物，住在小镇旁的一个山顶上。他痛恨圣诞节, 恨不得让整个节日停止下来。 于是，他去邮局破坏邮件的投递, 吓唬街上在节日中购物的行人. "圣诞怪杰"发誓要彻底破坏圣诞节, 他打扮成圣诞老人, 骑着用废铜兰铁敲打出来的雪橇, 到每个镇上人的家里偷盗。
这时一个6岁的女孩Cindy出现了, 她想知道圣诞节的真正意义是什么, 也想了解为什么"圣诞怪杰"的脾气那么古怪. 一系列的小故事发生了，Cindy和"圣诞怪杰" 成为了好朋友. Cindy使"圣诞怪杰"更加了解自己, "圣诞怪杰"也意识到了，特力独行使他错过的美好生活。
