Q-Tip用手上的MPC2000XL盖住自己的脸好像就在提醒所有人，他是历史最棒的rapper/producer，他能说能做，他拥有着不少人嫉妒的奶油嗓音，他为ATCQ（A Tribe Called Quest）创造过无数经典，制作人身份的Q-Tip更是跨越hip hop/urban，为Nas，Mariah Carey，Whitney Houston这样的天王天后制作唱片，还曾经调教过J Dilla（R.I.P.）这样的优秀制作人。
不过Q-Tip的个人事业在ATCQ（A Tribe Called Quest）解体后并不怎么顺利。除了在1999年发行了一张《Amplified》（《Kamaal the Abstract》没有正式发行过）之外，Q-Tip毫无任何做为，而且在6年的时间内Q-Tip竟然换了5个东家（唱片公司），这在hip hop历史上也应该算作一个记录了。
可能是ATCQ（A Tribe Called Quest）的在2006年的再次聚首（为著名游戏NBA 2K7录制原声）激发了Q-Tip的斗志，在这2年中Q-Tip异常高调，除了出现在各种演出中，Q-Tip还得到了传奇公司Motown的合同，在9年之后Q-Tip终于发行了自己的第2张录音室专辑《The Renaissance》。这和AZ的境遇有点相似，《9 Lives》让AZ的个人事业跌入低谷，一年后AZ也是在Motown发行了《Aziatic》来重振旗鼓。
你可以确定这是2008年？不是1994年？Q-Tip在2008年的大环境下还可以带来这样的作品，实在太让人惊喜了，我们仿佛回到了ATCQ（A Tribe Called Quest）发行Beats, Rhymes And Life的那个年代，有了Johnny Is Dead来打头阵，我们有什么理由不去期待剩下的歌曲？
Gettin’ Up是专辑的首波主打，在制作上Gettin’ Up和underground时下正流 行的手法没有太大不同，Q-Tip在这首歌展示了一个成熟绅士的魅力，整首歌的韵脚都压的非常舒服，个人尤其喜欢verse 2。

专辑在开始的阶段一直都给人惊艳的感觉，但是由于制作上的单一，到后面的时候我们就有了些许枯燥的感觉，两位neo-soul大师D’Angelo，Raphael Saadiq的适时出现，刚好在一定程度上缓解了我们的审美疲劳。尤其是Believe，D’Angelo完全抢走了Q-Tip的风头，这首歌从开始到结束，个人脑子盘旋的都是D’Angelo的hook，根本没在意Q-Tip说了什么。囧
相信有不少人听到Move的第一反应，就是确定一下自己是否放的Donuts。没错这首歌的制作人确实是J Dilla（R.I.P.），也许是J Dilla（R.I.P.）采样了Jackson 5的名曲Dancing Machine的缘故，这首歌的MV就是一个山寨版的Rock with You（Michael Jackson的名曲之一），别说Q-Tip长的和Michael Jackson还是有那么几分相似。
Dance On Glass和Life Is Better的话题都是关于hip hop本身，Life Is Better的beat更为花哨，而且还有Norah Jones这样的巨星加盟，但是还是朴实无华的Dance On Glass更的我心。

《The Renaissance》的发行日期选择在了Barack Obama胜利的日子（美国大选那一天）。Barack Obama现在已经开始了对美国的改革，Q-Tip也希望借着《The Renaissance》来改变hip hop，让hip hop重新回到轨道。
