“我以阿波罗及诸神的名义宣誓：我要恪守誓约，矢忠不渝。对传授我医术的老师，我要像父母一样敬重。对我的儿子、老师的儿子以及我的门徒，我要悉心传授医学知识。我要竭尽全力，采取我认为有利于病人的医疗措施，不给病人带来痛苦与危害。我不把毒药给任何人，也决不授意别人使用它。我要清清白白地行医和生活。无论进入谁家，只是为了治病，不为所欲为，不接受贿赂，不勾引异性。对看到或听到不应外传的私生活，我决不泄露。如果我违反了上述誓言，请神给我以相应的处罚。”
这是古代西方医生在开业时宣读的一份有关医务道德的誓词。它的主要内容，取自古希腊一位医师的誓言。这位医师名叫希波克拉底，在西方被人们尊为“医学之父”。
1948年，世界医协大会对这个誓言加以修改，定名为《日内瓦宣言》。
准许我进入医业时：
我郑重地保证自己要奉献一切为人类服务。
我将要给我的师长应有的崇敬及感激；
我将要凭我的良心和尊严从事医业；
病人的健康应为我的首要的顾念：
我将要尊重所寄托给我的秘密；
我将要尽我的力量维护医业的荣誉和高尚的传统；
我的同业应视为我的手足；
我将不容许有任何宗教，国籍，种族，政见或地位的考虑
介于我的职责和病人间；
我将要尽可能地维护人的生命，自从受胎时起；
即使在威胁之下，我将不运用我的医学知识去违反人道。
我郑重地，自主地并且以我的人格宣誓以上的约定。

At the time of being admitted as a member of the medical profession
I solemnly pledge myself to consecrate my life to the service of humanity:
I will give to my teachers the respect and gratitude which is their due;
I will practice my profession with conscience and dignity;
The health and life of my patient will be my first consideration;
I will respect the secrets which are confided in me;
I will maintain by all means in my power, the honor and the noble traditions of the medical profession;
My colleagues will be my brothers:
I will not permit considerations of religion, nationality, race, party politics or social standing to intervene between my duty and my patient;
I will maintain the utmost respect for human life, from the time of its conception,
even under threat, I will not use my medical knowledge contrary to the laws of humanity;
I make these promises solemnly, freely and upon my honor...
