1895 - Queen Min of Joseon, the last empress of Korea, is assassinated.
1895年的今天，朝鲜的最后一任皇后——明成皇后被日本军队奸杀并虐死。（史称“乙未之变”） Empress Myeongseong (October 19, 1851 – October 8, 1895) was one of wives of King Gojong, the 26th king of the Joseon dynasty (朝鲜王朝; 조선왕조; joseonwangjo) of Korea. She ascended the throne as Queen Min (闵妃; 민비; Minbi). In 1902, she got a posthumous name, 孝慈元圣正化合天明成太皇后; hyoja weonseong jonghwa hapcheon myeongseong taehwanghu, but she is known by the abbreviation 明成皇后 (명성황후; Myeongseong hwanghu) or Empress Myeongseong in South Korea. According to "the TV drama" and musical, her name was Min Ja-yeong (민자영; 闵紫英), but there is no evidence based on written documents of that name.
孝慈元圣正化合天明成太皇后（1851年—1895年）本名闵慈英，骊兴人。她是李氏朝鲜高宗的王妃，骊兴闵氏外戚集团的核心人物、亲华派领袖、朝鲜历史中女性掌权的延续。1851年（辛亥年，哲宗二年）阴历九月廿五生于骊州近东面蟾乐里，是佥正赠领议政骊城府院君纯简公闵致禄的女儿。1866年（丙寅年）十六岁入宫，并册封为王妃，是为闵妃，行嘉礼于汉阳的云岘宫（兴宣大院君第）。1895年乙未（高宗三十二年，光绪二十一年）10月8日“乙未事变”，日本公使三浦梧楼领日本浪人及多位军人入宫，明目张胆地把闵妃强奸及刺杀，残忍地将其裸体焚尸，并胁令高宗废她为庶人，直至两年后1897年，大韩帝国成立，才复其皇后称号，谥明成太皇后，并厚葬于南杨州市金谷洞的洪陵。
