周永祖周永祖现任香港大学工程学院院长。
周永祖教授自1995年起担任美国依利诺伊大学Urbana-Champaign分校(UIUC)的计算电磁学及电磁学实验室总监。
於1985年加入UIUC任教,其后被推许为创校教授及Y.T. Lo讲座教授。在此之前曾在斯价贝谢 - 道尔研究中心 (Schlumberger-Doll Research, Ridgefield) 工作近五年并跃升至主管一职;周教授在美国麻省理工大学毕业并获电机工程学学士、硕士及博士学位。
於1986年在美国获颁总统青年科学家奖。
周永祖教授为国际杰出学者,专研电磁学及计算电磁学快速算法,学术著作甚丰,被美国科学信息研究所(ISI)评为文章被引用次数最多全球首0.5%学者之一,其教研成就备受肯定并屡获殊荣,曾悉心指导不少研究生及年轻教授,对他们日后亦同获殊荣居功至伟。[1]学术造诣周永祖教授是电磁场与微波学界的大师级人物,是IEEE Fellow,OSA(美国光学学会) Fellow,IOP(英国物理学会) Fellow。担任电磁学界国际著名刊物Progress in Electromagnetic Research系列和Journal of Electromagnetic Waves Applications主编,曾担任IEEE Transactions on Geoscience and RemoteSensing副主编,以及International Journal of Imaging Systems andTechnology、Radio Science、Electromagnetics 等学术刊物的客座主编。研究领域周永祖教授研究领域广阔,主要包括计算电磁学、电磁散射与逆散射、地下探测等研究方向,并在诸多领域做出了杰出贡献。目前周教授已发表学术期刊论文300余篇,会议论文420余篇,与他人合作获得8项美国专利。据ISI检索统计,他以第一作者所著的论文被引用多达2000余次,是论文引用率最高(top 0.5%)的作者之一。他的研究成果已在国际电磁学界产生了巨大影响。
详细信息Weng Cho Chew(S’79–M’80–SM’86–F’93) was born in Malaysia,on June 9, 1953. He received the B.S.e, the M.S. and Engineer, and the Ph.D.degrees, all in electrical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, in 1976, 1978,1978, and 1980, respectively. From 1981 to 1985, he was with Schlumberger-Doll Research, Ridgefield, CT, first as a Program Leader and then as a Department Manager. From1985 to 1990, he was an Associate Professor with the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana, and he is currently a Professor teaching graduate courses in Waves and Fields in Inhomogeneous Media and Theory of Microwave and Optical Waveguides,and also supervises a graduate research program. From 1989 to 1993, he was the Associate Director of the Advanced Construction Technology Center University ofIllinois. Presently, he is the Director of the Center for Computational Electromagnetics and the Electromagnetics Laboratory, also at the University of Illinois. He is author ofFast and Efficient Algorithms in Computational ElectromagneticsandWaves and Fields in Inhomogeneous Media, has published over 190 scientific journal articles and presented over 200 conference papers. His research interests include wave propagation,scattering, inverse scattering, and fast algorithms related to scattering, inhomogeneous media for geophysical subsurface sensing and nondestructive testing applications.
Dr. Chew is a member of Eta Kappa Nu, Tan Beta Pi, URSJ Commissions B and F, and the Society of Exploration Geophysics. In 1986, he was an NSF Presidential Young Investigator. He was an AdCom Member with the IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society, and has been an Associate Editor of the IEEE TRANSACTIONS OF GEOSCIENCE AND REMOTE Sensingsince 1984, of theJournal of Electromagnetic Waves and Applicationssince1996, and ofMicrowave Optical Technology Letterssince 1996. He was an Associate Editor of theInternational Journal of Imaging SystemsandTechnologyfrom 1989 to 1994, a Guest Editor ofRadio Sciencein 1986, of theInternational Journal of Imaging Systems and Technologyin 1989,and ofElectromagneticsin 1995. His name has been listed many times inthe List of Excellent Instructors on campus.
