剧情介绍马丁与1955年的博士根据信上的内容找到博士藏在矿洞里的跑车，跑车坏了一个芯片，需要1955年的电子管才能修好。正当他们将跑车移出坑道时，却发现了博士的墓，原来博士在写信后的一个星期，被当地一霸“疯狗”（比夫的祖父）枪杀，马丁决定修好跑车，去1885年救博士走。
马丁来到1885年，碰见印第安人，油箱被打穿，没有汽油，无法将跑车加速到88英里，正在为难之际，博士想到了火车，在此同时，博士爱上了一个叫克丽的教师，在最后离开1885年之际，克丽也爬上了火车，危机时刻，博士没有进入跑车，使用飞行滑板救出克丽，马丁一个人回到了1985年，在回去的时候，跑车被毁。
正当马丁与珍妮怀念博士的时候，博士驾驶新的时间机器--一座用蒸汽发动的火车来......
