Catalyst 3550 Info:
1. Lab Exam racks after September 1, 2002 will have (2) Catalyst 3550s and no Catalyst 5000, but only the switching features common to the 3550 and 5000 will be tested.
2. After November 4, 2002, any capability on the 3550 with the EMI image could be tested.
Grading Info:
1. There is no partial credit. If you miss a requirement within a scenario you lose all points for that part of the exam.
2. You will not receive your exact Lab score for your exam.
3. Although response times will vary all candidates should receive their results by the end of the business day following the exam.
General Exam Info:
1. As of November 4, 2002, IGRP, Token-ring, Token-ring switching, and IPX will no longer be tested on the CCIE Lab Exam.
2. Appletalk, DECnet, LAT, X.25, ATM LANE, Apollo, Banyan VINES, XNS, and, ISO CLNS were removed as of October 30, 2000.
3. Routers in the CCIE Lab exam will be running 12.1 or earlier versions of IOS. Questions specific to version 12.1 could be tested. Anything within the realm of the IOS or the Lab equipment deployed is fair game besides the issues mentioned directly above.
4. Static and default routes are not permitted unless directly stated in a question. This includes floating static, static routes to Null0 and generated by any routing protocol.
5. If you need clarification on the meaning of a question, or if you suspect hardware problems with your equipment, you should contact the Lab proctor as soon as possible.
6. The equipment on the rack assigned to you is physically cabled and should not be tampered with. Routers' hostnames, basic IP addressing, 'no exec-timeout' and passwords on the CON, AUX and VTYs have been pre-configured. The Catalyst has a pre-configured prompt and enable passwords. All pre-configured passwords are “cisco” and should not be changed unless explicitly stated in a question.
7. All of the CCIE Labs follow Lab standardization rules, therefore, even every port on a router has to be the same across every Lab. All Labs use Windows 2000 on the pc, therefore, it is the windows terminal emulator that is getting used.
8. All candidates are allowed to re-take the Lab exam after a minimum of 30 days between exams.
9. The Lab is now 8 hours plus a 30 minute break for lunch.
10. Troubleshooting as a separate test segment has been removed for some time.
11. ATM is still tested on the Lab exam. However, you will not have access to the LS1010 ATM switch during your Lab exam.
12. There are currently 6 routers and two switches in each Lab exam rack. The routers are numbered/names RackXXRYY, where XX is the Rack number and YY is the router number. There are 4 ports on 3 routers deployed, 5 ports deployed on 2 routers and 6 ports on one router. Whether or not they are all deployed is test dependant. Ports used are Ethernets, Fastethernets, Serial, Token ring and ATM, and voice ports. All routers have at least one Ethernet or Fastethernet and two serial ports. Three routers deploy token ring ports and one router deploys an ATM port and FXO/FXS ports. There may also be other routers beyond your control that you will have to interact with during the Lab exam.
13. There are two resources found in CCIE Labs that candidates may use-the UniverCD and the paper documentation. Period. Any existence of Cisco Press books in the Lab are there because they belong to a proctor's private library and are not given to candidates. In some Labs and eventually in all, there will no longer be any paper documentation allowed.
14. Multiple telnet sessions to the Lab devices are allowed in the Lab Exam.
