今天网易正式发布了有道搜索,这是继搜狐,腾讯之后第三家进入搜索领域的门户(新浪早已放弃),丁磊称有道三年将成为中国第一搜索引擎,这不得不说是一句“豪言壮语”。
众所周知,中国的搜索市场早已被百度霸占,Google位居第二,再朝下走,那些后来者几乎只能博得一丁点儿残羹冷炙,这个时候网易再进入,就能翻盘,实现丁磊的“梦想”?
网易的这种做法不难理解,当年网易率先发起短信,后来被新浪搜狐相继超越,丁磊获益匪浅,之后网易在很多新业务上总是慢半拍,包括博客。
很显然,这个博客并没有如丁磊所想顺风顺水的发展,老三大门户中,新浪和搜狐的博客都可圈可点,在媒体架构和圈定用户两个方面都发挥了巨大的优势。而且二者的营销手法都别具一格,在这点上,网易就逊色了很多。
博客未能发力,心猿意马的网易便开始侧重于搜索的研发。诚然,网易自主研发的精神值得我们佩服,但也不能不看时局,更不能于大环境背道而驰。
搜索市场虽不是大局已定,但后来者想从零开始已经很难。这个市场有七层已经被百度占据了,其余的最多能分到两三层。所以,如果网易要成为第一,则必须先和二线搜索PK,最后在和百度PK,然而即便网易能冲破第一关,到了最后或许也已经是强弩之末了。
而且百度也正在寻求新的领域,例如IM,C2C,看来搜索这个领域的成长的确有限,网易现在进入显然不是最佳时机,因为最佳时机已经过了。
网易当然可以通过搜索来扩充其产品线,其逆水行舟的精神也值得赞扬,但要拿第一,恐怕比登天还难啊!

Yodao has been published, is there any space for the new participant in “Search Market”
Today, NetEase published Yodao Search Engine. This is the third portal which accesses to “Search Market” besides Sohu and NetEase. William Ding set a goal, that’s Yodao will be the first choice for “Search Users”. That’s one proud words of course.
Almost everybody knows that Baidu has captured the main market. Google follows it. Then other competitors can just get some little piece. Now NetEase joins in the competition. Will it turn the situation and realize William Ding’s Dream?
It is not so difficult to comprehend this conduct. NetEase lunched the business of SMS. Then it was surpassed by Sina and Sohu. After that, Ding gained a lot of experience. Since that, NetEase is always slower than other enterprises in some new business, for example Blog.
Of course, the blog is not so smoothly developing. Among the three old portals, Sina and Sohu are high achieving in Blog. They have played an important role in media construction and users expansion. They are so excellent in marketing but NetEase is much poorer.
It has poor achieving in Blog, NetEase began to search for other new field for profit. It chose Search Engine. What we admire much is the development ability. But it is stupid to pay no attention to the situation.
Although it is not sure for “Search Market”, it is very difficult for the latter players to enter the market. Now Baidu has captured most market, others can just capture little. So if NetEase want to be best, at first it should PK other challengers. Then at last it will face the most powerful competitors Baidu. At that time, it will be a spent force.
And now, Baidu is seeking for other field, for example IM and C2C. the “Search Market” is so limited to expand. It is not the very time for NetEase to enter the new field. The best chances has flashed away.
But NetEase can fulfill the product by Youdao. It is also praisable for it to “boat against the river”. But it will be more difficult for it to mount the sky.
