Design Concepts with Code: A Developer Approach
by Kelly Carey and Stanko Blatnik
Introduction
<preface>
<purpose>
Good design sells products. Good design invites users to return. Design Concepts with Code: A Developer Approach understands that developers aren't particularly interested in learning graphics applications or reading a treatise on design. The book offers clear and concise design concepts, examples, and projects to support developer proficiency with design in a short time.

<targetAudience>
The target audience is Web developers looking to improve the design and navigation of Web sites and Web-based applications using code. Product managers and project managers who want to understand what works and what doesn't work when developing project prototypes and final site designs will also find this book useful. Finally, this book will help freelance Web designers/producers/developers transitioning from application-based sites to code-based projects.

<bookOrganization>
Each chapter begins with a design concept, offers examples graphically and with code, and ends with a set of design axioms to consider on your next project. Chapters 3, 6, 9, and 10 present the graphics and code from projects developed as a result of the ideas presented in the concept chapters.
The order of the chapters follows the design process of typical projects. The text, read from beginning to end, provides a good overview of project design. Read out of order, the text provides a focused approach to specific design issues in which you're interested. Design fundamentals and axioms don't change over time. The book is a resource for later questions and ideas you may have.
