Mrs. Shirley Barnett
Intermed Co., Human resources department
500 Livington Street, Northvale, NJ 07647
Dear Mrs Barnett:
I am the manager of Intermed’s technical support department. If you remember, I was sitting behind you in the meeting held this morning. We are all pleased that our company had got a great chance to make further development. Most of the staff in my department will keep on their excellent work and continue to be one of the best teams in the surgical equipment industry.
Considering the new requirements of human resources of our company, it is reasonable that my name could be on the layoff list. After 15 years as a loyal employee of Intermed, there are several requests for me to ask before sending the formal application. I will be very appreciated if you can take these for thought.
It is fine for me to get four week’s severance pay for each year of service. And if possible, I prefer to exchange some of my severance pay with the stock that I can purchase in the near future. To avoid my 401(k) plan being in jeopardy, I would like the company to add the matching contribution for the entire year, though I may be not on the payroll through the end of this year.
If the layoff finally comes to be true, it will take up to one year for me to find a new position. It will be necessary for our company to provide the outplacement counseling and using of an office, telephone, and office equipment, and payment of my job-hunting expenses for 90 days.
Please give me your advice by this weekend. There must be a lot of staff members caring about these requests. Your quick advice or response will be the assurance of the smooth turnaround of the projects all over the company.
Thanks and best regards,
Lake Wang
