RealPlayer10 & XPDF Installation
Last night I tried to install RealPlayer10 and xpdf on my linux box. Hopefully RealPlayer is done but there are some problems on xpdf3.0. It took me a lot of time to install xpdf3.0.
Real10 is my favorite video player on my linux box when playing rmvb file. Another is MPlaer. I used to use Real8 which is available on my CD, but Real8 can't play rmvb, so Real10 is my choice. I find it from my familiar website www.linuxfans.org. Real10 is a bin file, and I don't like rpm file. Installation of Real is very easy. When it is done, I see very familiar style of Real, the same as my Vim on Xwindows. Maybe it is the Motif style.
Xpdf3.0 have experienced some huge changes. The version available on my RedFlag4.0 linux box is very old. It is 1.01. xpdf3.0 which is the lateset is released in 2004. xpdf3.0 need some dependency tools like freetype lib and t1lib lib. They are attached to the release.
Before I install xpdf3.0, I have to install the dependency library first. Keep in mind that the path of freetype and t1lib's installation. We need to use it in xpdf's configuration.
$ cd ~/xpdf
$ ./configure ... see the INSTALL file in xpdf directory
xpdf need Motif toolkit, the version on RedFlag4.0 is LessTif.
The bad thing is I still can't find the right font for my linux box. It is a little bit difficult for me to config the fonts. I will use Adobe's acorbat reader instead of xpdf3.0. I just waste half of my night to install these tools.
