ASTERISK Asterisk is a complete PBX in software. It runs on Linux and provides all of the features you would expect from a PBX and more. Asterisk provides Voicemail services with Directory, Call Conferencing, Interactive Voice Response, Call Queuing. It has support for three-way calling, caller ID services, ADSI, SIP and H.323. asterisk-oh323 package adds H.323 support to the ASTERISK soft PBX. This is achieved by interfacing the
OpenH323 library to ASTERISK through an appropriate channel driver

VOVIDA.org Gateway
SIP based Single-line VoIP Residential Gateway (SIPRG) development of a PC based VoIP Gateway.
SIP Residential Gateway (SIPRG) an open source application based on the Session Initiation Protocol (SIP). The SIPRG is an IP Telephony Gateway that allows a SIP User Agent to make and receive calls between the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) and a SIP-based network such as VOCAL. The SIPRG was developed with the VOVIDA SIP stack version 1.3.0, and uses a QuickNet LineJACK card (www.quicknet.com) for connecting an Analog telephone line. Currently, it supports only a single LineJACK card and is therefore a single-line gateway.
NIST-SIP Gateway
JAIN-SIP Gateway The NIST-SIP gateway allows starting a SIP server between 2 networks and forward messages forth and back between them. Therefore, this gateway starts 2 SIP stacks each of them listening to a different network interface. The gateway is using the RTP gateway API provided in the jain-sip-3pcc package for bridging the RTP streams. All RTP packets received from one side of the network will be forwarded to the other side. Moreover, the NIST-SIP gateway has the capability to forward SIP messages to a PSTN gateway. The NIST-SIP gateway also functions as a SIP registrar.

[htm] Symbol patents voice over WLAN (InfoSync World - 02.05.2002)
Symbol Technologies has been awarded a patent for telephonic communications for wireless digital devices using wireless local area networks (LANs). Commonly referred to as wireless Voice-over-Internet Protocol (VoIP), Symbol says it was the first company to pioneer the methodology that made it commercially viable for devices to handle telephony voice communications over 802.11 wireless LANs.

According to the pro-posed scheme, the speech coding rate of a network-driven variable bitrate coder is selected to match the istantaneous wireless channel conditions: higher rates (i.e., larger pack-ets) for low error rates, lower rates (i.e., smaller packets) when the channel is noisy.
