WE ALL want to be the boss, or we have all entertained this thought at some point. But have we really thought it through carefully? Being a boss is not easy. Because, fundamentally, if you want to be a good boss then you have to stop wanting to be a boss. (sorry, i might just confuse you guys here)
First of all, the word boss itself is a horrible word. I hate it. The real word should be leader. (before i go on, i would like to recommend a book___7 habit to become an effective people, especially for those who hold key management position in your company)
To be a boss means you have to lead people? Wow, this sounds like hard work. This sounds like too much responsibility. No doubt! And secondly, being a leader means that if you are good at it then you will work bloody harder than others. Is this the "big" point? NO. Being a leader means that you grow people in effort to make them independent and interdependent, not dependent. Someone who says:(I forgot who has said this) The function of leadership is to produce more leaders, not followers.Leaders are meant to listen to the people they lead. They must teach them how to be effective and how to communicate. They are meant to instruct and guide them. And they are meant to help people discover what their strengths, potential and weaknesses are.
Being a manager, or a boss, means that you will need to lead people.Like parents, they work for their kids. And you work for the people you lead in your company.
finally, I think that most leaders I have met are pretty bossy. They need to listen more that I reckon is the most difficult skill to develop. Once, my boss, oh, no, my mentor, coach told me : ange, you are a tough lady, and you would be a leader sooner or later, but being tough is far from enough. It's your personality decide where you go.(I didn't fully understand that then) Here, I wanna show my respect to all leaders who really know how to respect every staff as an individual.
The boss depends on authority; the leader depends on goodwill and personal chrisma; the boss says "I"; The leader says "We"; the boss shows who is wrong; the leader shows what is wrong.
Wish you guys all the best!espresso
