Second Impression about UK
Hi, all,
I am sorry that I haven't contiuned my report from Europe for over two months. The first reason is that my husband visited me during the past month when I was in London. Every minute is so treasure for lovers in honeymoon. Because it will end at the exact day. So I beg all my dear friends pardon. I suppose that you will understand me. The second reason is that this trip is the second time I return London. Most places I visited with my husband is that I reported in the spring. After my husband left, I prepared pack in and left London for York to accept one week training. It was rather intensive. One week ago, I arrived at Copenhagen. Now, I finally can sit down and organize my thoughts to review UK and view Denmark. However, surfing on internet become a difficult thing here. Therefore, I have to ask my friends to pay more attention for my slow report. Dear flyheart, Linda, Dave, Mary and David, well and our new host, sorry, your ID is still a little bit strange for me, I miss you and always stay here as long as you are still here.
Now, let me post my first report under this string as follows:
York Outside Paradise
After almost six weeks life in cosmopolitan London, we came to York, a small, quiet, ancient and lovely city to study for one week.
York is an important sightseeing spot for many tourist who visit Britain. One reason is because it is on the way from England to Scotland. It seems that everyone who visit England will go to Scotland. When they pass by York, they surely won’t miss it. The second reason is that York had been capital of England in history. It had been occupied by Roman around A.D 300. It has over 1200 years old history. It is a real old city in England. British have been proud of their history. I am not sure whether you still remember that there is a proverb in Britain, the older, the better and more valuable. York certainly becomes pride of British. In addition, New York is so famous nowadays, the appearance of its origin is also very important.
This is the second time to come here for me. The first time that I traveled York is a couple of weeks ago with my husband due to joining a tour group, which was arranged by a travel company to have a four-day-journey around Britain. We only stayed here for one hour in order to catch time. A hurry glance of York only gave me a brief impression, it is a ancient small city. There are lots of ruins in this city. But this time, I have one week to look into it. Its beauty unfolded in front of me bit by bit.
Firstly, the most attractive sight for most tourists is so called Minister Abbey, an ancient and huge cathedral. After several month travel in Europe, cathedral is not as attractive as we met for the first time. We even feel a little bit sick when we heard of cathedral. Anyway, it is said that this Abbey is the biggest one in north Europe. The glasses of it have experienced winds and rains for several hundred years.
Secondly, there are several sessions of ancient walls around the city and some old buildings which are several hundred years old. When you walk around York, narrow and clean street, old and beautiful buildings, a narrow canal, lovely bell from the Abbey and friendly people form a quiet and beautiful picture. This city seems never to let you feel intensive and pressure. There seems not any noisy things to annoy you. Its rhythm is slower than that of London. I suppose that most people prefer to live in this kind of place after experiencing noisy and pressing life in big city. That is the reason I found that York is more lovely than before especially after six-week intensive study in London.
Finally, the place we studied is besides of a wonderful turf. Actually it is a racecourse. Our programme was arranged by the college of law in York which is besides a huge racecourse just like prairie in Inner Mongolia of our country. After class, we walked through this piece of grassland, we seemed to fall into a huge prairie. We almost can’t see anything beyond green grass and ourselves. What amazing! Who can resist its charm. We really regret that we had to leave it only after one week stay. It is real too short for us.
Anyway, we should appreciate British Council’s arrangement though it only lasts one week. And we also appreciate the God’s arrangement for one-week lovely weather. We haven’t seen so blue and clear sky since we came back London.
York, outside paradise, we love you and will miss you.
