It is said that Guangzhou is a paradise of food. Indeed. If you come here, I shall be glad to introduce our catering culture to you and strongly recommend you to taste the local food. But, do you think you are brave enough to have a try?In general, local people eat everything: from those flying in the sky, crawling on the ground to those swimming in the water. Here I would like to introduce two dishes to you.The first one is the fried jaw of ducks. It’s rather delicious. I love it, especially the tongues of the ducks. The second one is the fried dragon louses (so called longshi),which I cannot stand so far. The dragon louses are kind of insects like the cockroaches. I remember clearly the feeling of the first time (and it should be the last time as well) I tasted it. When it was served, its horrible appearance scared me. Staring at those ugly black cockroach-like insects, mother and me refused to taste them. However my father gave a high praise to them. Prompted by curiosity, I picked up one. When my fingers pinching on its checked chest and its triangle head, I had my hair stood on. Yet I managed to tear apart its wings and the fury legs. On I saw its yellow stomach, the scene came to mind: I once stepped heavily on a cockroach and then I found its stomach burst into sticky pulp. Irk! Yet I plucked up my courage and bite it. Oh, no! A taste of urine! Gross! I chewed it reluctantly and couldn’t help spitting it out. “A taste of urine!” I cried out. Father laughed and asked, ”how come, dear? It’s so luscious!” God! I was speechless. One man’s poison is another man’s meat. Indeed.
