Report from Denmark (3) Impression of Copenhagen
I have been Copenhagen nearly four weeks. After traveling eight countries, nearly twenty cities in Europe, Copenhagen doesn抰 bring me too much surprise. Nevertheless, there are still some special things impressed me.
Copenhagen is a small capital compared other capitals we viewed. But it is still the biggest one in North Europe. According to my feeling, it seems not bigger than my hometown, Dalian. But the population is smaller than that of Dalian. So it never lets me feel its crowd and noisy as other capitals!
The feature of Copenhagen is its quietness and not breathtaking scenery and culture. There are few new and high buildings here. The style of building is very close to Britain and Germany. Canal, lake, harbor are the main tunes in Copenhagen. Diversity sculptures should be the eyes of Copenhagen. Danes fancy art of sculpture. You can see various character sculptures here and there. Little mermaid can be regarded as the symbol of Copenhagen. These sculptures are made of copper. They appear green color due to oxidation. Therefore, various green sculptures form an extraordinary scenery of Copenhagen.
Compared to London, streets and roads are quite wide and close to Beijing's. Due to most people ride bicycle, the path for bicycle is very wide too. I never viewed so many people riding bicycle in western countries. I feel that I were in Beijing when I see so many bicycles. The main reasons that there are so many people to ride bicycles are as two, the first is due to protection of environment, the second is because of high tax paid for buying one car. For example, if you buy a car of price of 60,000kr, you have to pay 120,000kr for tax beyond the price of the car itself. 180,000kr is not small number for a common Dane.
Danes seem not to like gorgeous clothing very much. On the contrary, most Danes would like to wear casually. I think that the most important reason is the need of riding bicycle.
It is said that summer is the best season in Denmark as well as other north European countries. We are not lucky enough to catch the most beautiful season. September belongs to early autumn here. There are only one or two sunny days in one week. The scenery in cloudy appears gray and it also makes people feel a little blue. Nevertheless, we still can find her beautiful appearance under treasure sunshine. Walking along bank, feeding pigeons and swans and share with their happiness of eating is an enjoyable thing. Blue sky, green grass, clear water, white sail and carefree water birds form a leisure and pretty picture. This is Copenhagen in my mind. I start to like it. And you?
