Conclusion
It’s coming to an end of this semester, so it’s time for me to get a conclusion to my work of this term.
Since last term, I have been in charge of senior three’s English, I know it’s a great honor to be a teacher of graduated class, but more than often, I feel its pressure while thinking of how important my work means to those students as it will definitely affect their future though English is only one subject for them. What’s more, it will influent their development even after graduation from college.
As I have known its importance of my job, I set out to study the College Entrance Test paper so that I would know the direction I should go as I helped students with their preparation for the test.
First, I found most students were poor in English writing, the majority felt it hard to express their thought in English though some of them were good at writing in Chinese. In order to develop their writing skill, I encouraged them to write diary each day or each week in English, they could leave those they didn’t know how to express in Chinese, when they finished it, showed it to me, I would work with them. I found , in that way, it was in a short time that most of them didn’t fear to write in English any more, on the contrary, they always write so long that I warn them to notice the number of the character of their passage. Because for the test paper, the number of character in the passage is asked not more than 100.
Secondly, don’t focus on grammar, knowing a little is necessary, but no need to study it. As I study the content of yearly CET paper, little single grammar has been tested, the grammar is combined with sentence, so more attention should be paid on the meaning of the sentence, that is to say, students should concentrate on the understanding of each sentence or each paragraph, don’t waste too much time on single grammar which is both hard to remember and helpless to do papers.
Thirdly, it’s never enough to get some short passages on various subject to read as many as possible. Not only can it enlarge students’ view and vocabularies, but they can enjoy the original writing as well, which cultivates their thinking style. Teacher is not the key to help your students climb onto the top of knowledge mountain, because the knowledge of a teacher is limited, but kinds of books have recorded thousands of people’s wisdom, as a teacher, your main task is to guide them, don’t dominate them. Especially as an English teacher, I don’t have the experience to live in an English speaking country, so what I know is not much more than that of my students’, though I can get kinds of books on English teaching or find some good websites on english learning to enrich my teaching, it still can not meet the need of students. So reading english stories means much to improving a student’s english, don’t just rely on the class or the teacher.
In brief, in the past term, I have focused on the comprehensive ability, hoping that will be of help for my students who are going to take the key test.
