My heart is always with Hongen
As a loyal member of Canuck’s Comments, I’m glad to see that more and more friends devote their warmth and hearty bless into our big family, so many ideas rush in. That’s why I write this article. A year ago I was wandering online searching for websites about English, but I failed to find one I’m interested in. During that period of time I used to buy 21thcentury, so I tried to log on. I’m glad to find “English community” there and I posted about more than one hundred passages on forum “Say you say me”. I got a few replies because the master hadn’t been there for a long time and fewer friends join the forums. I felt so frustrated and decided to quit. I was eager to improve my oral English and listening then. Once I bought a serial of “Hongen Environment English”, so I got to know Hongen by its guide. At first what interested me is English chatting room and listening material of David. It’s the very place for me to learn oral English. It might be magic that I melt myself into the chatting room all my spare time. I was lucky to get to know many friends via English chatting and I learned a lot. Sally is one of intimate friends among them. We contacted in email if we had no time to chat online. I made great progress in English writing by communicating with Sally in English for a long time. I really thank you, dear Sally! It’s you who lets me have interest in English all the time. Sometimes I logged on English Salon, but I’m disappointed to find there were so many questions in Chinese on Andy’s Column. I took it for granted that other English forums were almost the same. Time flies quickly! One day I didn’t find a good chatting partner and clicked on the Canuck’s comment just for a look. So many wonderful articles attracted me. I regretted that I hadn’t visited it earlier when I first came to English Salon. I replied some passages and selected several articles I wrote before. I got many warm and kind replies, which encouraged me keep on writing more articles. During a period of time I formed a habit of chatting while browsing articles of Canuck’s Comments. We can talk freely in chatting room, although spell mistakes or informal expression are available off and on. Few people are serious about that if he understands you very well. But writing on forum is another thing. Native English speakers might forgive many mistakes in your speaking English, but they can’t bear such mistakes in your writing, especially spell mistakes and incorrect punctuation, for they’re all from your careless. To be responsible to ourselves and other readers, I call on us to concern about these “minor” mistakes and try to avoid them. Now I seldom come to the English corner, for I pay more attention to forum. We can express our ideas clearly in articles or replies while we might not manage our ideas well in chatting. If you write more you’ll find it’s more difficult to organize your ideas than to express it in English. Several days ago I entered chatting room to relax myself, I ran into a friend with the name “bonset”. I recommended him to have a look at Canuck’s Comments. He did so and told me that he enjoyed those articles very much. I encouraged him to have a try, but he seemed frustrated. I asked him why. he told me that he dare not post articles because he might not write good articles as those he read. I told him every writer of good article had a very beginning. “Didn’t you have a try, how can you know you can make it?” he promised to post his articles later. I really appreciate his words, Memories rushed in. A year ago when I was wandering in the chatting room, a friend with the name “Comnnex” led me into the forum. Now I played the role instead. I’m also glad I could do something to our big family. So I never look down on English chatting, on the contrary I think chatting is a nice way to practise English. You have to reply quickly or others won’t chat with you. You can learn lots of practical idioms or expressions from chatting. Chatting and writing are two important means of learning English. They make up for other’s shortcoming. Thanks all friends here for wasting so much time to read my redundant chatter. I really hope our big family is blossoming brilliantly among all forums, for the spring is coming.
