Dear Facearmy(yyy),I will answer your questions one by one.
Q1: Why "Cheu-Yi is better than Zhou-Yi and I-Ching is better than Yi-Jing"? A good question. I am glad to give my opinions.
First, have you ever seen these names appeared in English articles:Chou En-lai(周恩来), Chu-Teh(朱德 ) , Chen Tu-hsiu(陈独秀) ,Sun Yat-sen(孙中山) and so on. It is very difficult for foreigners to pronounce some Chinese sounds like "zh, d, j etc". From the above names, you can see "Zh" from zhou周and zhu朱 is translated into Ch, (I saw somewhere they use Cheu instead of Chou). Take another for example, de(德) and du(独) are respectively expressed by "Teh, and Tu".
Second, I want to tell one thing I have experienced to further prove my point. One year and a half ago, when I was still a student in Beijing New Oriental School, I once attended a lecture given by a panel from Europe. After the lecture, I have talked to a lady. She asked my name, then I told her my given name is Yizhong and my family name is Zhang. But what she called me Chung Yichong. I remember clearly I repeated my name for many times to her, but you know what, she was interested in pronouncing my name but couldn't correctly pronounced my name even once.
Third, according to the art of translation, a great deal of loan words have had their versions of translation which are publicly accepted and no big problem, everyone should adopt the version established by usage. I have read some books on the art of translation, in them, they analyzed the usage of the loan words and emphasized the importance of this usage.
Q2: Could you tell me what shortages there were about “Cheu-Yi” or “Zhou-Yi”?
In China, maybe there isn't any shortage by using “Cheu-Yi” or “Zhou-Yi”. But in foreign countries, I guess most people are more familiar with Cheu-Yi and I-Ching and there is a possibility that some people will feel a little confused about seeing Zhou-Yi or Yi-jing. They cannot make sure wheather or not Yi-jing is I-Ching and Zhou-Yi is Zhou-Yi until they check up.
Q3:In your last two posters, you have given much great recognition to “Zhou-Yi”,Could you try to prove any or one, two for us?
I did not and will not say that Zhou-Yi is wrong and Yi-Jing is wrong either. I believe I-Ching has another paraphrased name. From the books I have read, I-Ching is most generally used.
Q4: Could you tell me how long you have you known about I-Ching or Yi-Jing? The first time I paid attention to this book is when I was a junior high school student. I learned about this book from the Chinese classes.I had never read about it until one day I saw it on my father's bookshelf after my father came back home from his business trip. I got my first impression of The Chinese diagram of Yin and Yang and The Eight Trigrams of the Grand Terminus. Since it read at my age of early teens abstract amd abstruse, I only understood little about it. Actually, I was not bad at reading ancient classical Chinese articles for I had finished all ancient classical Chinese texts should be studied by senior high school students when I graduated from junior high school.About ten years ago, I bought myself the book of I-Ching because of my curiosity of giving a goodname. I had studied carelly on this book and helped others with giving auspicious names. Don't laugh at me, please. I was just in strong curiousness .I have talked with some furtune-tellers who did their divinating business on the roadsides. I do think these profit-oriented furtune-tellers on the street are incomparable with those senior divination masters. Aren't you aware of that doing such divination business can make a sizable furtune overnight Here is a price list in one city:Giving a name for per person: 80yuan---150yuanGiving a name for per privately owned company: 300yuan---500yuanNaming a wedding day: 300yuan---500yuanNaming a funeral day: 200yuan---400yuanNaming a day for opening ceremony: 100yuan---1000yuanNaming the exact time for moving to a new house: 100yuan---200yuan...... Q5:Other, I want to hear how you understand the uses in marriage and name and calendar about “Cheu-Yi” or “Zhou-Yi”. Can I?
It's going to be a big and complicated job.I can explain some in Chinese, but.... I may write some on it in the days later and I sincerely hope you, dear facearmy(yyy), or other friends, present me more with I-Ching in English version. I am looking forward to that.
The more I learned about I-Ching, the more I respected it.
Warm greeting to you and all.
