Two hours ago, we were total strangers to each other, but now we became so dear and close, through our eye contacts, our smiles and the fervent passion deep in our hearts. I held her tight, so scared that she would suddenly slip away like a dream. The delicate make-up on her face, the subtle fragrance from her body and the tender expression in her eyes made her the most charming girl that night, and me the happiest man in the world.
The ending of the dance came earlier than I expected. Just as I didn’t know what I was supposed to say or to do, a man of my age came towards us, anger so evidently clouded on his face as not to be neglected even in the dimly lights. He cast a look on her and then on me, and walked away in silence. I was puzzled and supposed he must have taken me or the girl as others.
“Excuse me for a moment”, the girl said to me, and then followed the man, leaving me in confuse.
Who could this guy be? The girl’s boy friend? The possibility was soon denied——Could a man bear his girl friend’s intimate behavior with a stranger man, for the whole night? Never. Then, why did the girl seem to be afraid of him? What was their relationship? Questions mounted up on my mind one by one. My heart was in depressed suspense.
Afraid of losing the trace of the girl, I occupied a seat near the aisle while my mind began to wander again. Was it really a game? Really just for fun? No, I convinced myself that she was not the girl of that type. Yet, my self-confidence began to shake as time passed second by second without her presence. I began to wonder if she was worthy of my waiting, but at the same time, the worry lingered: what if she did came back to me after I lost my patience and left for the hotel? How would she feel if she didn’t see me? Calming down a bit, I decided to keep on waiting for her.
My patience and faith did not fail me. Some minutes later, she finally emerged, alone, sweet smiles still on her face. What a wise decision I had made!
“Hi”, I greeted her, my heart containing more than happiness.
“I am so awfully sorry. He is my colleague. He brought me here tonight…”
I suddenly realized how much the word “colleague” counted, as I could hear little after I knew who that guy was.
“You know what, my colleague warned me that I should not trust you so easily and dance with you. He said that man of my kind must be something of a playboy.” She continued.
“And what did you say?” I asked, in curiosity.
“I told him I trust my intuition, and I knew what I was doing.”
I held her hand, and looked at her eyes. I loved the eye contacts with her. Sometimes it transferred much more meaning than words.
The exchange of names and phone numbers soon followed. Then, I told her I was in Beijing for training, and would be leaving the day after tomorrow. Although she tried to compose herself at the news, I could still catch the change of the expression on her face. Silence. To prove myself, I took out the train ticket and passed it to her. I guess she might have thought I was seeking an excuse just now, as she seemed to regain herself after she had a glimpse of the ticket, and began to ask me something about my training and my work.
Time was spent in happiness till our conversation was stopped by the ringing of her mobile. She took a look at the number and then pressed the red button. The ring ceased. Then, she suddenly said to me, “I have to leave. He’s waiting for me.” Before I knew how to react, she stood up, touched my face tenderly, and then walked away...
