Dear friends,
How can we possibly imagine that the world is fair? Is it fair that some babies are born retarded? Is it fair that some people are so poverty-stricken that they must search garbage dumps for little things to sell in order to eat? Is it fair that some people get cancer and die from it?
The world and what happens to is us not fair.
It is not fair to a fetus that it is aborted. It is not fair that some people have no shoes and get terrible diseases that enter through their skin.
The world is what it is. What about the sufferings of children and innocent people? What about little children who are sexually abused?
No. The world is not fair. What we can say is that it is our obligation in life to try to assist anything that makes the world more fair. Also, we should try to be kind and never add to anyone's burden.
The only things that we can say about it is that we do learn from our troubles. Wnd that very poor people can be less proud, and more trusting in God. They have no one else to trust.
The other thing we can say is that the suffering of children and innocents is a mystery that no one can solve. 'Abdu'l-Baha said that because God is just, merciful and loving, their suffering is made up to them in the life to come. They receive blessings from God there to make up for it.
That means, if you want FAIR -- you won't find it in this world. You have to go beyond this world to see the whole picture. In the end, life is fair, if you take the next world into account.
Warmly, Mary
