FIRE BUTTERFLY
“If we can’t be together this lifetime, we would meet again next time as a pair of butterflies with the color of flame on our wings.”
She always likes rain, especially when it is a heavy one. The girls in her village found her a strange girl, as she spent her time alone in a big house and liked all those strange moments. Though she is a stunning beauty with her ocean blue eyes, full-grown body and slim figure, the guys found her hard to get.
Today as usual, she walked into the field at sunset. As she stood there bathing in the sun, she heard horse whinny behind her. She turned her back and there stood him, sitting on the horseback, his grey eyes glowing like moonlight, his dark hair dancing with the wind.
How could God create a woman as beautiful as she! He watched her bathing in sunlight, a circle of light formed around her, as if she was a playful angel sneaking out from heaven.
They had fall in love at first sight, as if God let them remain single for a long time because they were meant for each other.
He was a knight under the service of the king. He had only came to this small village by the ocean because he received a challenge and was to have a duel here in one month’s time. God let them find each other, but had given them so little time to be together.
They spent every minute together for the month. He helped her grew flowers, walked with her in the rain, watching sunrise and sunset by the beach, and at night they would lie on the grass and watching the moon. As days passed by, they loved each other more and more, and hoped that time would stop there, so that they could have an entire life together.
She wanted to escape. She wanted him to go with her and live at a place where no one would find them. She wanted him to give up all he earned ad owned, and spent a quiet life with her he shook his head and said, “I’m a knight, and I have my responsibilities and my duties. If I ever survive this duel, I would spent the rest of my life with you.”
She knew the chance of him surviving is very rare, for his opponent was the finest knight in the all world. She cherished their time of being together, and at the same time prayed for a miracle.
The day had come. A man with the coldest eyes she had ever saw appeared at her doorstep. He took his sword and left with the stranger. Before he left, he held her for the last time and whispered in her ears, “If we can’t be together this lifetime, we would meet again next time as a pair of butterflies with the color of flame on our wings. And I will accompany you to everywhere you want, forever and ever. Je t’ adore, I love you.”
She mouthed “Je t’ adore. Adieu.” To him as she was afraid that she might broke into tears if she said it.
Soon after he left, the clouds grew grey and drops of rain began pouring down. If it was any other day, she would love to go out and have the blessing from rain, but today she just stood by the window listening as rain knocked on her window. She had a bad feeling.
After a while she saw a man coming from the field, but it was the stranger she saw early that day. She covered her mouth when a small sob escaped from her quivering lips. No, it can’t be! No!!!!!!
She ran out of the house into the field. She stopped as she saw him, lying in the blood-covered Michaelmas daisies, not a single live sign from him.
She knelt beside him, gently put his head on her lap, her hands stroking his wet hair. Fingers touched his eyebrows, nose, cheeks and finally lips, the pair of eyes she loved so much was no longer twinkling, and she could never saw the passion in his eyes again. He was gone, and left her in this now so lonely world. How could she live without him? how could he be dead when she loved him so much and would exchange for his life with hers?! She picked up the sword he used for ears, and slowly pushed it into her belly.
“Do you know that Michaelmas daisy means ‘farewell’? You said good-bye to me at last, but you promised me that we would be together next lifetime. Keep your promise to me, see you then.” She kissed him the last time before she closed her eyes, with a smile on her face.
The rain was heavier, but not far away, a pair of butterflies with the color of flame on their wings flew further and further away, at last, disappearing into the sky…
P.S. i just finished it yesterday night, altough i wanted to write this story for a long time. i don't know why i didnt mention fire in the article, but substitute it for flame. hehe... guess flame is a better word than fire, well, anyway, they all have the same meaning.
