Impression of Yun Nan(1)
Finally, we have been to Yun Nan after expectation of one year. Since our family
(including my mother) went to Hai Nan last winter, I decided to take family to
go out once a year. Yun Nan is the first choice for winter tour after Hai Nan. Nobody gives negative comments as long as they have been there. So we had kept high expectation before we went there. My hubby made very serious preparation. A small group is made up of my family (five members) and a friend family (two members) took leave from Dalian on 15th of January.
The first place is Kun Ming which is the capital city of Yun Nan. A friend of mine drove her Landcruiser to take us to Jindian (Golden Palace) which used to be
Wu San Gui’s palace. It is a nice place. To be honest, I am not quite interested in palace, such as forbidden city. The second place is Dian Chi. It is an actual big lake. While we were standing the bank of Dianchi, the wave of the lake isjust like sea wave. It is hardly to see the other side of the lake. Though Kun
Ming has the honor of Spring City, it is not as warm as we expected. My friend told me that this winter seemed rarely cold for Kun Ming. I posted two pictures Itook at Dian Chi. Could you see any spring’s hint from it? The following scenery impressed us mostly. We saw swarms of birds flying over here. My friends toldus that it is a kind of bird of passaget which is somewhat seagull with red mouth. Since they flied Kun Ming to spend their winter for the first time in 1999,
they never stopped flying here due to having warm welcome of Kun Ming’s people.
People feed those lovely birds with bread. The amazing thing is that no matter
how much bread was thrown in the air, those birds never missed them. They are well-trained. We may see those birds’ highly skill to catch bread. I took many pictures and posted one of them here. All family members cheered joyfully while feeding those birds. It is most exciting moment to going with animal harmoniously
for human being. It seems nature of human being.
After five-hour-tour in Kun Ming, we left Kunming for Xi Shuan Ban Na which is just on the tropic of cancer which is between tropical zone and temperate zone. It is well known as “the last green diamond” on the tropic of cancer in the earth. Only one hour distance from Kun Ming by air, it is completely different weather. Though it was night and we could not see any scenery there, the breeze against our face is full of mild and hot. We took off our winter wear immediately and inhaled the treasure tropic air deeply.
We stayed two and a half days and three nights in Xishuanbanna. We visited a tropic arboretum, wild elephant valley and forest park. The impressing scenery of Xi Shuan Ban Na is flourishing virgin forest and various tropic plants and animal
. You may see some pictures I took. My husband fancies tropic plants deeply. And
the kids of course are always overwhelming exciting while seeing animal. You may see my daughter even drove on the back of tiger. Believe or not, it is a real
tiger. My daughter seems to have very close relationship with any animal. She seems not know the fear of animal. So she could not help touching them as long as
she had opportunity. In wild elephant valley, there are some wild elephants to live there. If the travelers are lucky enough, they may see some wild elephants.
Though we did not see any wild elephants, we saw their shits and footprints. Besides natural sceneries, I love to explore different folk custom. During three days, we visited two families, one is a Dia Nationalities’ family, another is my
father’s fellow soldier. They are the Han nationality. In Yun Nan, there are over twenty nationalities. Han nationality is minority. The Dai Nationality is biggest nationality in Xi Shuan Ban Na. They have their own language and character. The custom of Dai is amazing. The character of Dai is only initiated to male
but female. Therefore, boys usually study in temple and girls in the school of the Han nationality. When boys are seven or eight years old, there will be a ceremony for boy to enter into temple to study. We just ran into the ceremony while
we visited a Dai’s village. If a man who never entered into temple, he will notbe looked down. Though boys who studied in temple, they may live as in their family. It means that they can eat meat and even make girl friends. So they are called as playing Buddhist monks. When they are getting married, they may resume secular life. Before a man becomes husband, he has to work in the home of future
parent-in-law for three years as slave. It is a just like a trial. If he passes
the trial, he may enjoy the rest lives without any heavy labor. All works will be done by his wife. The interesting thing is that they will give special favor for man with wearing glasses. In their eyes, people wearing glasses is knowledgable. They can be teachers without working as slave for three years. All members of my family wear glasses. The lady told us that our family would be welcomed warmly if we would like to stay there. :PP We fully experienced multiracial in Xi
