Joe was a sailor at the age of 20. Before he sailed faraway, he and a pretty girl got married. This girl was Mary. She was working in a small clinic as a nurse.
Joe and Mary had been classmates for six years. They fell in love with each other after they graduated from the school. Love was wonderful to them, but the happy days were always too short. After Joe left, Mary lived with Joe’s mother, a
warm-hearted old lady. Mary tried to get on well with her mother-in-law. And Joe
’s mother felt happy for her son to have a virtuous wife like Mary. Some years
later, Mary and Joe had a lovely son. And very soon the whole family moved to a
big city. Mary was lucky enough to find a job in a big hospital. But the place they lived in was too far away from the hospital. Mary had to let Joe’s mother look after the boy alone. And
she herself moved to the dormitory in the hospital. Mary worked hard and waited
for Joe to return from the sea, wishing her husband could find a better job in the same city. But sometimes things are not completely controlled by people. Some
evil rumours came to Joe’s mother’s ears. It was said that a rich man working
in a bank was running after Mary. Joe’s mother didn’t believe at first. But rumours grew very quickly. Someone even said that she had seen this guy stay in Mary’s dormitory for many times. Joe’s mother was old. She couldn’t go to the
hospital to ask Mary what on earth it was. She just put all the doubts in her heart and very naturally she told her son all of them when Joe returned again. Joe
was like a bear with a sore head immediately. He couldn’t bear any betrayal of
his wife, although it wasn’t confirmed. He went to blame his wife angrily. And
Mary couldn’t bear being treated unjustly. She blamed her husband for just believing his mother but not her. The quarrel increased to a family war. And very soon their marriage came to the end when the court announced their son would be fostered by Joe.
10 year passed. Now the boy is a middle school student. His grandma has been
looking after him. His father seemed more closer to the beer and the street girls. And his mother is single, too. She gets used to seeing her son at the school
gate. Their friends try many times and wish they could marry again. But the misunderstanding has made the most seriously hurt. They love each other, and they hate each other as well.
