the First English Class and My New English Teacher
Today I attended the first English class for English writing of the new semester
in the University. The teacher is an American and his name is David Van Drimmelen. Judging from his white hair he should be in his 60s already, but it's still more than 10 years younger than his real age. He was so energetic, active and funny that I would have taken him as a young man if he had his hair dyed or just wore a hat. He is tall and his figure is perfect, needn't to gain or lose any weight
. The most distinct point on his face is his nose, the bridge of nose is high and
straight. On the bridge of his nose there is a pair of glasses which make him looks more erudite. His eyes are blue and his skin is white with pink. His clothes are simple and neat.
He didn't give class in a traditional way in which a teach just lectures what the textbook says. His class was very interesting. In this class he told us a lot
about he himself and his family. He was borne in a poor but warmly family. He was independent since when he was a little boy because he wanted better living conditions and knew that there were noboday he could depend on to reach this goals,
so he studied very hard and began to work to make money to share the shoulder of his parents after school since he was 8-year-old. His first job was to work in
the garden helping his mother sowing and havesting various vegetables. When he
was 11 he he sold vegetables door by door pulling a trailer piled whith tomatoes
, potatoes, onions etc.His thired job was to deliver newspapers. When he was 14 he worked in a grocery store. At 18 he got the certificate for the entrance of an
Uniersity since then on he became a University student, in his spare time he worked in the railroad and the pay for this work is 300 dollars per month. No long
after he bought his first car for 350 dollars and he was very proud of becoming
a car owner guy whith the money earned by himself though it was merely a used car when many girls and boys casted admire eyes lights on him. At 20 he quit his
school for 2 and a half yreas and went to a far place to meet and live together
with his family and relatives. At 22 he met a beatiful girl who was an angel in
his eyes and fell in love with her, they started to date and got married later.
He has six children in all, three daughters and three sons. What may impress you
most is that he has 24 grandchildren, one of his daughter has 8 children. It's
really a big extended family which can hardly be found in nowadays China for the
birth control policy.
He showed us many pictures of his family members by multimedia and introduced each of them to us.
He can speak more than four kinds of languages include English, French, Creole and Spanish. He always highs on humanitious work and have donated a lot for charities including money and other properties and free work.He and his wife have worked in the very poor area HAITI without any reward for more than one and a half
year giving help to those very poor people who are badly in need.
Before coming to China he was a business man in the US valuating the valuations
of properties of people who wanted to loan from banks, at the same time he fostered the good habit and skills of English writing because he had to write many reports for the evaluations every day, and also thanks to this he became a qualified English teacher of both written English and oral English.
Time flying, the class was ended in his vivid relating. How come time went so fast! I really wanted to hold the step of it,but what a pity, I couldn't do it. I left the classroom unwillingly looking forward to the coming of the next class.
