Dear friends,
Randolph wrote to me on the message string last night to supply date and time
of my original post to which he objected. Mine was in reply to a root
post by someone who called themselves Alexanderliu.
The root post was titled: "have you ever thought about having a gay boyfriend?
posted 03.08.02 07:40 and said:
"I was preparing for my term paper dealing with postmodern feminism. And
yesterday I downloaded a music video called "my gay boyfriend" somewhere
in the internet. Then I realized the idea is really awesome. How do you like
it?"

You will note that it isn't clear whether Alexanderliu is a male or a female.
That makes a difference as to the motive of the one who wants a gay boyfriend.
A female's motives would be quite different from a male's. I replied:

"Sounds like a good way to get HIV/AIDS or other STD's. Find some other
way to be daring and different."

I would still reply the same way because the male homosexual0 lifestyle includes
unprotected sex with total strangers, often in public toilets or bathhouses. Not all homosexuals live this way, but many do. Some now go so far as to want to
be infected with HIV/AIDS for some twisted reasons. On the other hand, somemale homosexuals and female lesbians want to commit themselves faithfully to one
partner and hope to gain legal right to marriage. This is extremely controversial in the USA. In Canada legal male homosexual and lesbian marriages have been
performed.
My reply was directed to the frivolous heading of the root post derived
from listening to a song, and the invitational and light-hearted spirit of that
spost. It is possible Alexanderliu was a girl toying with the idea of being daring and different and also not needing to provide sex to a male who isn'tattracted to females. It's also possible that he was a curious young man.
There are many young and impressionable students on this forum. I wished to give fair warning to impressionable students and innocent and naive others. Sixty
people read the root post to which noone replied, except me. Two people read my
reply: obviously they were the Master who gave it a red star and Randolph. So
much for fair warning.... ;-> Well, a lot of people don't botherreading anything but root articles here. They miss a lot of good stuff. But,
to each his own.
Randolph, I'm truly sorry my reply hurt you. It is difficult enough to be burdened with homosexuality when you could be misunderstood, beaten and killed for it
, as happens from time to time here and, you say, there.
There are a lot of reasons for homosexuality. However, numbers of youths and men embrace the lifestyle because they want to be different and to flaunt their defiance of society. Others are caught in a difficult dilemma. In the West we have been grappling with the issues for some time. Your society is just beginning
to think about it and will probably need to come to terms with it so that assaults and murders don't happen. The situation needs to be better understood by the general public so that human rights aren't violated. Yet STD's must not be casually spread through society by those who are indifferent to the well-being of
their sexual partners.
I wish you the very best of luck, and invite you to take full part in this
unusual and interesting forum. Come and discuss with us the wide range of issues that arise here. You'll enjoy yourself. Your English is already pretty good,
and can become even better.
Friendly good wishes, Mary
