A couple of days ago, my brother told me that he had been at home and bought a
suit of underclothes which is given as birthday gift for my father on the telephone. My father was in utter astonishment all of a sudden when he received the gift, because it was the first time in his life—receiving the gift from his only
son whom is now a junior at a college. Although I was not at home, I can feel how excited my father was at that moment, even can fancy the trace of a smile appeared at the corners of his mouth.
I remember I first bought the ten-cent things for my grandparent in one of my
winter holidays when I was a secondary specialized school student. In general, it is comparatively cold in the winter in Hunan, though it seldom snows. Considering this, I spent a little of money buying a plastic hot-water bag for my grandmother and two pair of quilted stockings for my grandfather when I went home from
school. “How could you know it is just what I really want to?” My grandma raised a voice joyfully, as she was looking at the hot-water bag over and over again by the light of the electric bulb. “I heard it works well for people to warm
up in the winter when sleeping, so I am about to buy one.” Just At that night,
she poured some hot waters into it and put it near her feet on the bed, while my
grandpa went to bed with a pair of new quilted stockings instead of others he had been wearing.
In my eyes, even my brother’s, those gifts are really nothing, but for my grandparent and parents, they are really something. For all parents, they always say what they need most is good news from us-safety, health… not those gifts which may cost a lot of money, but you never know, how delighted they would be when
at the moment they receive gifts from us.
