Have you ever seen a sundog? I saw two of them today at around 9:40 in the morning, when I was running to catch a bus.
The sky was moderately lit, but not as blue as it usually is at this time of theseason. The sun was behind a stretch of cloud, some 60 degrees above horizon,
seemingly not very far as it hung obliquely overhead. Two sundogs, literally twomasses of light not quite as bright as the real sun with a slightly arched rainbow like thing going vertically through each of them, positioned symmetrcially with respect to the sun some distance away. As the clould and the sun moved, the brightness and the stretches of the rainbows varied. I felt the scene pretty exciting. While I was waiting for the bus, I couldn't help asking a local student beside me if this was unusual, and she answered in a kind of matter-of-fact way that it was usual. After I got on the bus, I lost the good vantage point for watching the sky, and by the time I got off half an hour later, the sundogs had disappeared. I also learned that there are moon dogs as well, but according to my understanding they are simply huge halos around the moon, as many of us may have seen at night.
No one knows how many wonders nature has in store for us, but everyone must in his or her life see some of them. I'm always ready to hear that what has amazed you.
