Hi Honey, and concerned friends,
Here we have what is called a "belly-pack." It is made of strongmaterial or leather, and is fastened around the waist by a strap towhich it is attached. The pack is worn at the front of your body, or
at the side. When you sit down it makes a handy back cushion to
support your back. I have heard that back doctors often recommend
belly-packs to back patients for this use.
I carry my money and important cards in my little belly pack. If youdon't make it too full you may be able to wear it under your jacket
or coat, yet it is easy to open with zippers and several pockets. Youfind what you need easily and quickly.
Surely you have belly-packs in China? If I were you, I wouldwear one. It is so handy when you go anywhere, because your hands arefree. You can also carry a handbag or a wallet but don't keep thevaluables or very important things there. You would have little need
of a wallet, though, unless you want to carry one in the usual placeas a decoy for a thief. A handbag may contain many things, such aslipstick, aspirin, notebook, and so on, so you may still want one evenif you wear a belly-pack.
When my brother-in-law was here from Germany he had a man's
handbag, maybe called a dispatch case, or some such masculine name. Itwas a simple rectangular black leather bag closed by a top zipper,
with a strap attached to the end, which he wore around his wrist.
When my brother David was here I gave him my black leather belly-pack.
That indicates that maybe you really don't have them there? I was
able to replace it with another black one, as I wouldn't be without one.
Of course, there are still money belts with a zipper on the back where you may carry a couple of bills behind the belt that holds up your pants. Intravel stores there are very thin, zippered travel bags that you wear
under clothing, placed over your shoulder so it hangs underneath your
arm, or at your waist, or strapped to a leg.
These are not convenient for everyday, but I think you could fashion
your own belly pack if you think about it for a little while.
Somehow, I believe they are available in China, and that my
brother simply didn't see one for sale. Is that it?
Warmly, and with best wishes to your all for protection from thieves!
If you find you like a belly-pack, why not give one as a gift to adear elderly person. Or tell them about it. They are usually ableto do things for themselves, and may make their own. Maybe theywould even make one for you! :-)
Affectionately, Mary
