智利女仆拉奎尔在历经23年的尽忠职守后，无法接受这个家庭将再有一位新女仆的加入。这位个性害羞、乖戾且固执的女子，却也是忠诚、严谨、冷静的女仆，她深根蒂固地固守着这个家园，还有三个被她宠坏的小男孩，及两个与她作对的大女孩。
一个人照顾这一大家子，每天闹钟响起，开始忙碌的一天，作饭、洗衣、打扫，女主人想找一位新女仆为她分忧解劳，但拉奎尔可不这么想，她怎可容许辛苦建立的领域被侵占呢? 只好费尽心机，耍点小手段，如愿地搞走了两个女仆，然后，来了位善良又单纯的新女仆露西……
导演拍出了一个在工作多年的女人，青春已逝，忧心职位不保，对工作的抱怨、不满与习性也慢慢地渗入个性，不知不觉间扭曲变形，变得难以相处，而善良的新女仆露西瓦解了拉奎尔封闭的心，友谊的双手，让她挣脱了自我禁锢的牢笼。
