The Linyanti in Botswana is famous for its big game. For a warthog raising its litter, danger is everywhere – from the lion, leopard and cheetah to the packs of hyena and wild dogs denning in the bush nearby. The warthog mother is more wary than usual. This season she has lost a young one to an aerial hunter, a martial eagle and another in a surprise attack by a python. It is a huge challenge to raise a family under these conditions, but the mother warthog is notorious for her tenacity and determination.
