ToolBook是美国Asymetrix教育系统公司开发的多媒体创作工具，现已成为多媒体创作的经典工具之一。制作多媒体课件的开发工具,它在制作交互式在线学习的多媒体课件方面更易于操作，是课件设计者的好帮手。
ToolBook的动画能力介于Authorware与Director之间，教适合用于儿童教育软件。在ToolBook中通常把多媒体光盘称为书，而书中的每个窗口（或场景）称作一页。
ToolBook在目前众多的多媒体应用开发工具中，以其易学易用最为突出，它对开发者的计算机专业知识要求较低，又提供了许多可以效仿甚至直接采用的样例，有利于开发者提高兴趣进入角色，但是，更深入、更灵活地利用它的功能则不是普通用户所能做到，因为这需要对各类对象的结构和消息传递机制有较清楚的了解，另一方面，ToolBook的许多功能(尤其是多媒体功能)都要通过函数的调用去实现，如何设置调用参数和根据函数返回值作相应的处理也不是一般用户所能轻易掌握的，所以，只有不断地学习他人的经验、总结自己的实践，才能提高应用开发水平，开发出功能更强大、操作更灵活的应用程序来。
Toolbook软件由Asymetric公司开发，创始人为Allan Paul（与Bill Gates一同创建微软）离开Microsoft后投资创建的。它提供一种完整的程序语言Openscript，包含丰富的函数。但是市场推广不力，在多媒体迅速发展的几年，Toolbook一直不如Director、Authorware等工具的发展。后来Asymetric公司改名为Click2learn，做专门提供给企业Elearning用的平台----Aspen，并在NASDAQ上了市。2004年Click2learn又被Sumtotal收购。

SmartPages

SmartStyles

Quickly re-use existing PowerPoint content. Import the PowerPoint file into ToolBook as described in the pictures below. Then, add assessments, interactivity, media, and rich effects using ToolBook. For deployment, publish the content to the SCORM format using ToolBook’s Web publishing feature.
Increase the involvement of your Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) in content authoring. Instructional Designers first design a PowerPoint based storyboard, next a SME populates the storyboard using the familiar PowerPoint interface. Then, these PowerPoint files are imported into ToolBook as shown below. For deployment, publish the content out to SCORM format using ToolBook’s Web publishing feature.
