Josh Groban fans who caught the singer's 2004 Closer tour would no doubt take note of Lucia Micarelli, who was the violinist and concertmaster for Groban. Like her boss, who also is executive producer of Music From A Farther Room, Micarelli is a young, attractive, and talented player who has the classical training, but who is also enchanted with pop music. Also like her boss, her strain of classical crossover works thanks to tasteful accompaniment, in this case from arranger/composer Paul Schwartz. The smartly chosen program of material comes from such varied catalogs as David Bowie and Rogers and Hart. Micarelli's playing is emotional without being overreaching, assertive when called upon, and nuanced. When she does go over-the-top pop on Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody," it's brief but fun; when she navigates Piazzolla’s "Oblivion" she draws upon the song's passion more than its technical requisites. This is beautiful music played (and arranged) with passion. The sheer lushness of the sound is so different than 99.99% of the "popular" music that spills out of elevators, malls and cars. There is a strain of a modern beat that seems to segue into many of the pieces creating what I guess can be called "crossover music" (I hate that term)... For most released CDs, the norm is one or two oustanding tracks yet here it seems that every single selection is a winner. This is music for contemplation and I would dare say, solitude. Music of this caliber requires a more intensive ear and seems to become muddled in a crowd. I look forward to the next album. (Customer Review on Amazon.com)

Lucia Micarelli (born July 9, 1983 in Queens, NY) is an American violinist best known for her collaborations with Josh Groban and classic rock band Jethro Tull.
Of Italian - Korean heritage, she began playing the violin at the age of three and played her first concert with an orchestra at six years old. She was classically trained at Juilliard and the Manhattan School of Music. She was the concertmaster with the Trans-Siberian Orchestra on their Christmas Season Tour in 2003. After her tour with TSO, Micarelli joined Josh Groban on his Closer Tour as a guest soloist and concertmaster.
In 2004, Micarelli released her first album Music From A Farther Room, executive produced by Groban. It is a blend of classical pieces and familiar pop songs, including Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody", David Bowie's "Lady Grinning Soul" and David Foster's "To Love You More". In May 2005, Micarelli opened for West End singer Michael Ball. In October and November 2005, she toured the United States with Jethro Tull. Both Lucia and Jethro Tull were so pleased at the quality of the performances, and at how well they worked together, that they decided to tour together for much of 2006. In 2007, Micarelli toured with Josh Groban again to promote his album Awake, and completed her second album, titled Interlude.
Micarelli has recently been touring with trumpeter Chris Botti (2008).
