The McAfee FlashBox appliance is a standalone, rack-mountable
server device that provides an Administration console and a
Client Management console. This document addresses only those
tasks that are performed by users authorized to access the Client
Manager console. From the Administrative console on the Master
FlashBox, the FlashBox administrator downloads the latest V-Flash
updates from the Citadel V-Flash Server and uses the V-Flashed
URLs to download patches from patch vendor sites. The V-Flash
updates and patches are stored in the FlashBox archives. In a
multiple FlashBox environment with online mirroring, the FlashBox
administrator on a Child FlashBox gets updates from the FlashBox
configured as the Parent FlashBox
To keep the McAfee software synchronized with the latest updates
at client sites where McAfee servers have no connectivity to
the internet or a FlashBox, the FlashBox user on the Flashbox
Client Management console creates media (CDR or DVD+RW) for
installing these updates. The FlashBox tracks distributions by
client so that the media for each distribution contains the
required updates.
