In this film Robert visits the lovely harbour of Porthmadog in North Wales on a sunny but windy day to take a number of photographs with his digital camera. Back in the studio these are then downloaded onto a laptop computer and a view selected for the demonstration painting.
After a review of the tools and techniques for line and wash Robert then uses a sharpened matchstick dipped in waterproof black ink to draw the Porthmadog scene, with a full commentary on composition, tone values and other decisions made as the painting progresses.
Washes of watercolour are then applied over the ink drawing, with descriptions of colour mixes used at each stage.
The result is almost as good as attending one of Robert’s demonstrations or courses.
