提起西班牙的Pyro Studios，大家想必都不陌生。他们凭借《盟军敢死队》系列滋滋润润地活了好几年，不过既然敢死队员们几乎已经把全二战期间有点名气的大小战役挨个玩了个遍，Pyro Studios也不得不考虑开拓新业务了。于是他们就开始制作一款大地图回合制+战场即时策略制的——就像《全面战争》系列那样的游戏——《Imperial Glory》。
征服欧洲
《Imperial Glory》是以拿破仑一世横行欧洲大陆的那个时期——也就是1789 年到1830年之间——为背景的。玩家可以从奥地利、普鲁士、法兰西、俄罗斯或者大不列颠这几个国家中选择一个来实现征服整个欧洲（外加一点北非）的计划。和所有人都已经料到的一样，每个国家都有自己的特长和缺点，以供你根据实际情况采用不同的发展策略（现在还有哪个游戏不强调这个的么）。如果你选择地大物博的俄国，那么自然就意味着可怕的人口数量，以及随之而来的价格低廉、数量惊人的陆军，而四面环岛的大不列颠自然是以发展海军为第一要务了。
和《罗马：全面战争》一样，《Imperial Glory》也分成了两个主要的层面：在回合制的战略层面中，你可以调度国家的生产、指挥军队在地图上行进，在即时的战斗层面中，你要直接控制自己的部队在战场上厮杀。当然除了这些老调调，《Imperial Glory》也有着自己的特点在，记得刚才我们提到不列颠以海军为傲了么？游戏中的海战占了相当重要的地位，你将有机会海面上指挥庞大的舰队，以无数的侧舷炮将敌人的战舰豪快地轰到海底去。
经营与战略
从欧洲到北非，游戏里供你来征服的地区是由55张地图组成，我不是说那种简单的黑纸白字，《Imperial Glory》的世界地图都是经过3D渲染的，看起来颇为华丽，你的各种部队便是沙盘上的棋子和模型。在这里，你要做的不仅仅是把自己的部队推向前线，而是要兼顾经济发展、资源采集、科技研究、军队培养等等方面，只有把自己的国家建设得足够强大，才能有实力谋求更多的土地。游戏中提供了七十多种功能各异的建筑物，这里面包括矿井工厂、军港兵营等等设施，它们将为你的国家的发展提供更大的动力。一般说来，随着游戏的进程和你的科技实力的进步，你会不断得到建造新类型建筑物的能力。当然科技实力的进步是通过完成某项技术的研究而实现的，游戏中有70多种不同的技术，比如牛痘接种、间谍、强化攻城器械，连不费一兵一卒说服其它国家臣服于你的外交手段也归在技术之列。《Imperial Glory》中并不是只有积攒军队赢得战争这一件事可做，在战役模式中，制作组为玩家们设置了一些任务——从发现罗塞塔石碑到建造出第一个股票市场——只要你比其它国家抢先完成任务，就可以获得丰厚的回报。
既时策略
当两军相遇后，游戏就会进入即时的战斗层面，你可以选择是让程序自动处理战斗并直接给出结果还是亲自指挥部队作战，前者自然是用来应付那些微不足道的小冲突的最佳方案，而在进行事关全局的大型会战时，就必须要亲自动手了。你的部队将是由历史上真实存在的兵种和真实存在的将领所组成的，诸如威灵顿勋爵VS拿破仑·波拿巴这样的著名战斗都会出现。玩家要做的就是为自己的部队排兵布阵，然后使用简单明了的控制界面下达命令。你可以选择不同的阵型和不同的战术，比如让部队藏身于树林中准备伏击敌人，或者让步兵排成密集方阵抵挡骑兵的冲锋等等，但是目前我们还不知道你是否可以暂停战斗以下达指令。！
海战！海战！
海战作为游戏的另一大重点，和陆战有着完全不同的路数。各种战舰的尺寸和级别各不相同，因此在速度、火力和耐久度上都各有不同。小型的战舰可以绕着大型战舰机动，但配备了两位数重炮的主力战舰只消一轮齐射就可瞬间将其打得百孔千疮，你要做的就是计算战场的形势，让自己的舰队尽可能地用侧舷对准敌舰（同时不要让敌舰的侧舷对着你）。战舰上装填的炮弹也有讲究，可以瞬间将轻型舰船打成筛子的霰弹、让敌人战舰起火的燃烧弹和爆破力极强的榴弹都可以用来填在你的主力战舰上的上百根炮管里。你还可以用满载水兵的战舰靠过帮去，派船员杀上来强行夺取敌船。
