1997年，时逢乐队成立十周年，乐队进入德国汉堡的Impuls录音室，开始了Nuclear Blast唱片公司史上预算最庞大的录音工程，除了雇用Barmbek交响乐团外，更有两支完整的唱诗班参与(一为North German Radio Choir，一为专业的摇滚唱诗班The Siren Choir)，加上一位古典乐及一位金属乐的双制作人共同合作，花费了一个半月的时间终於完成了经典巨作<Theli>，此张专辑销售了近10万张(注：对欧洲重金属乐团来说已算大卖了)，同时Therion亦展开了全欧洲的大规模巡回演唱行程，包括了和Amorphis共同演出的一个长期演唱，以及一个为时两周与My Dying Bride、Sentenced、Secret Discovery和Sundown等团的音乐节(festival)演唱。
这是瑞典90年代当红的死亡金属乐队Therion的一张向 交响歌剧金属转型的重要专辑，他们大胆尝试了新的金属音乐表现形式：男声兽吼、合唱、女声歌剧唱腔、大量键盘、钢琴的运用，以及比死亡金属要来得缓慢的厚重的金属吉他节奏和非常干净清晰的主音吉他。
我听过他们先前的死亡金属作品，技术对于Therion来说一点都不是问题（他们的技术非常棒！）。我由衷地佩服他们的乐器编排（配器），杂而不乱、层次分明，让人听起来很悦耳，不像一些乐队的器乐听起来很吵。这张专辑的推出让他们获得了巨大的成功！ 各国金属杂志给予极高评价和赞美！
这张专辑有十首歌，整体听起来还有些他们以前的死亡金属的影子，不过我更喜欢他们转型成这个样子，作品非常耐听，有的歌曲听起来就像唱赞美诗，还有很多我喜欢的吉他SOLO片段。我很欣赏Therion的吉他音色，无论是主音还是节奏吉他，都丰满厚实、齐整动听且穿透力强而毫不嘈杂。我最喜欢第九首歌，清朗的原声吉他、温柔的女声主唱、大段动听的失真吉他SOLO和凝重的钢琴伴奏，别有一番浩然苍凉的音乐氛围。尽管这张专辑中加入了相当多的古典元素，相比于1998年的Vovin，显得还是有那么一点点的不成熟。但是Therion通过这张专辑 向人们展示了他们对新一代金属音乐勇敢的创新，以及对瑰丽的交响歌剧金属的窥探！

Finally had the budget to do such an album I had been dreaming of doing for years! I used songs that I had written years earlier, but saved as there was no possibility to record them at those stages + wrote some new tunes to finish this album that was a long time dream of mine to do.
