FooFighters is an American alternative rock band formed in 1995.Singer andguitarist Dave Grohl formed the group as a one-man projectafter thedissolution of his previous band, Nirvana, in 1994. Prior tothe releaseof Foo Fighters in 1995, Grohl drafted Nate Mendel asbassist, WilliamGoldsmith as drummer, and Pat Smear as guitarist tocomplete the group.Goldsmith left during the recording of the group'ssecond album, TheColour and the Shape (1997), and Smear's departurefollowed soonafterward. They were replaced by Taylor Hawkins and FranzStahl,respectively, although Stahl left prior to the recording of thegroup'sthird album, There Is Nothing Left to Lose (1999).
