本书用马克思主义的“世界历史”眼光来审视全球化与民族文化多样性问题，把全球化与民族化问题结合起来，对全球化浪潮和民族化思潮各自的“二重性”进行了全面系统的分析，理性而清醒地揭示了21世纪全球化浪潮和民族主义思潮的发展趋势及其发展前景。 全书分为六章，对全球化与民族文化多样性的关系进行了多视角、多层面、多维度、多学科的研究。例如，从经济学的角度对于经济民族主义与经济霸权主义的研究；（3）从文化学角度对于文化民族主义文化霸权主义的研究，从文化学角度对于文化民族主义和文化霸权主义的研究，从文化生态学角度对于全球化视野中民族文化的保护与传承的研究，从民族学的角度对全球化背景中的“民族自治”与“民族共治”的研究等。 本书作者在吸取中外学者研究成果基础上，提出了自己的一系列见解，其中包括对当代世界、特别是西方学者中一些错误甚至是危险的流行观点进行了批评和反驳，具有一定的现实意义和文化意义。
