简介：
解放初期，在广西南部的十万大山地区，有一股为数三千余人的顽匪主力部队，他们的首领是惯匪李汉光和他的老婆李月桂，这股狡猾的敌人经常化整为零凭藉深山老林和我军作着垂死的挣扎。我军某部担负了歼灭这股顽匪的任务。为了摸清他们的底细，派了侦察科长曾泰，冒充刚从国外越境过来、现已被我军捕获的匪军副司令，根据其供词线索深入到匪巢之中。曾泰到达匪司令部时，由于延误了预定的接头日期，引起了女匪首李月桂的怀疑。当曾泰到达的第二天，李月桂把他的亲信特工组长假扮成被俘的解放军战士，让曾泰审讯，看看这位副司令的态度。可是机智的曾泰识破了敌人的诡计，用巧妙的方法闯过了第一次考察的难关。
不久李匪又派曾泰带领一个大队去沙河圩骚扰，因为那里是我们土改试点区。这给曾泰带来难题，明知李月桂搞鬼，可群众的生命财产绝不能因此受损失。曾泰想出了一个既不让敌人怀疑自己、又不使群众受损失的办法，闯过了第二道难关，由沙河圩归来，曾泰和护卫排的匪徒夜宿在青石沟老猎人覃大爹家。覃本是曾泰的联络员，夜晚曾泰给覃大爹交待情报时被特工贺志雄发现，贺把情况报告给了李匪夫妇。当曾泰归来时，李月桂让曾和贺对质，曾泰又用以攻为守的方法，使李汉光杀死了贺巧妙地闯过了第三次难关。
李汉光虽然对曾泰的怀疑解除了，但李月桂总担心曾的延误日期是否受过共产党的突击，她派人抓来老猎人，严刑拷打。可覃大爹始终未吐出真情。老猎人被捕，切断了曾泰的联络点，正在为难之际马政委又派侦察参谋耿浩来了，耿浩是冒充送烟土的狗腿前来的。李月桂对这个新来的人又发生了怀疑。耿浩则暗地把新联络点的情报交给曾泰。李匪根据暗藏在我军内部49号特务的报告误以为耿浩就是曾泰，逮捕了耿浩，并让曾泰亲自审讯。耿浩为了帮助曾泰完成任务，一口咬定自己就是曾泰，帮助曾泰闯过了第四道难关。最后曾泰赢得了李匪的信任，掌握了兵权，冒险放走了耿浩和老猎人，耿浩在送情报时牺牲。我军根据老猎人带来的情报，将匪徒一网打尽。
