Three outdoor products companies are expanding in the state of Utah, further solidifying its position as a leading location for outdoor- and recreation-related businesses. In all, the projects are expected to create and retain nearly 2,000 full- and part-time jobs and generate more than $6.5 million in new capital investment.

Backcountry.com is an online retailer of more than 250 outdoor and back-country brands. With anticipated sales growth during the next five years expected to be up 500 percent, Backcountry.com announced a significant expansion. Plans include an investment of more than $4.8 million to grow its operations in Park City and West Valley City. The expansion will bring about 1,250 new jobs to the area.

Smith Sport Optics, which manufactures ski goggles and helmets, announced the acquisition of a manufacturing facility in Clearfield. The 120,000 square foot facility will serve as the company‘s primary manufacturing, assembly and distribution facility. During the next decade, Smith will grow its Utah workforce by more than 60 jobs.

Utah has experienced a large influx of outdoor companies in recent years.
