Smith, P.E., is an Emeritus Professor of Architecture at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. He worked in electrical construction for more than 20 years. He taught electrical apprentice classes for the IBEW and industrial electricity at Parkland Community College and Environmental Technology for the School of Architecture. Mr. Smith has frequently lectured on the application of the National Electrical Code ?. He was an active member of the Illumination Engineering Society, of the Illinois Society of Professional Engineers, and of the International Association of Electrical Inspectors.^Stephen L. Herman has been both an electrician and a teacher for more than thirty years, and he is the author of numerous textbooks on the subjects of electricity and mathematics. Mr. Herman retired as a lead instructor for electrical technology curriculum at Lee College in Baytown, Texas, where he served for twenty years and received an Excellence in Education Award from the Halliburton Education Foundation. He also taught at Randolph Community College in Asheboro, N.C., for nine years and helped Northeast Texas Community College in Mount Pleasant, Texas, establish an electrical curriculum.
