本书共由五部分组成:词汇热身、构词妙招、词汇运用、学生脱口秀和白领脱口秀。每部分都凝聚了作者对英语的挚爱和深刻的理解,涵盖了当今社会各个领域中最基本的英语表达方式和最简洁的词汇运用。这绝不是一本需要痛苦背诵的词汇书,而是一本可以让学习者在快乐阅读中自然而然地学习词汇,并最终让这些词汇在头脑中落地生根的词汇书。
“词汇热身”列出了每一课必须掌握的单词并配有音标注释;“构词妙招”简要说明了这些词汇最常见和最基本的构词特点,用以提高学习者对英语词汇的感受性;“词汇运用”也是本书的亮点之一,通过对学习者易混淆的词,尤其是因母语的干扰而导致的错误用法(比如glass和cup的用法)作出澄清和比、较,提高学习者对这类错误的重视程度;“学生脱口秀”和“白领脱口秀”都是第一册核心词汇的顶级表达,情景性极强,通过针对准备参加考试和想提高词汇量的学习者分别加以拓展和发挥,使学习者领略英语词汇的趣味性和多样性。丰富多彩的例句、严格筛选的表达、幽默地道的语句涉及生活中的各个主题。只要学习者能够熟记例句、比较不同情景并且反复琢磨,就一定能够达到灵活运用英语词汇的目标。
需要说明的是,本书中的单词是根据《新概念英语》第一册中的课文顺序编排的。原书中没有涉及单词学习的课文就被酌情省去了,而涉及单词较少的课文则进行了合并。
