Sometimes they get along well; sometimes they squabble. In the happy ending, they share a cookie jar, a playhouse, and a riding toy. Gently conveyed through the pictures as well as the words, the lesson is clear, but the emphasis here is on the children's everyday activities and emotions. Though the words are not all monosyllabic, repetition will make the text accessible to the target audience of beginning readers.
