编著这套《高中英语扩展阅读＆词汇练习》的目的是为了向已具有初级英语水平的广大在校高中生和具有同等英语水平的学习者提供一套针对性强、方便实用而且有助于他们快速提高英语水平的扩展阅读材料。
《高中英语扩展阅读&词汇练习》由《起步篇》、《渐进篇》和《提高篇》三册组成。每册约含40个单元的阅读材料。材料由易到难，篇幅由短到长。其中

高自己的英文写作水平。

Two Young Men and a Bull
Once two young men were spending Dome time in the country．One day while
taking a walk together，they crossed a large field．Suddenly a bull appeared and began to chase them．Finally，one of them climbed up a tree and the other jumped into a large hole．Soon，however，the man who had jumped into the hole canle out again．Immediately，the bull chased him back into the hole．Soon the man came。ut
of the hole again，and the bull chased him right back．This went on five。r six
times．
Finally the man in the tree，who was very angry，cried to his friend in the
hole，“You fool!Stay in the hole for a while．Otherwise．the bull will keeP US here all day.”
As the other man jumped out of the hole again，he said，“That’S all right for you to say，but there is a bear in this hole.”
Water
Water is very important to living things。Without water there can be no life on
earth．A11 animals and plants need water．Man also needs water．We need water to
drink，to cook our food and to wash ourselves。Water is needed in offices,factries and schools．where else is water needed?
Water covers about seventy percent of the earth’S surface．There is water in
SeaS， rivers， lakes，springs and wells，but the polluted water in them is poisonous or dangerous to people's health．So waste water from a number of cities is now cleancd before flowing back into rivers，seas，and what not．
