前言
笔者多年来从事翻译与翻译教学研究工作，深知翻译工作的艰难性与复杂性。学习翻译的人，通过一段时间的学习， 自然会了解翻译、懂得做翻译以及怎样熟练地运用一些技能技巧尽可能地解决在翻译过程中遇到的问题。但是，有时我们会发现译者所掌握的相关技能技巧在翻译实践中并不十分灵验，误译之事时有发生，其原因是源语中的隐性文化在其中带来了某种翻译障碍。因此，从文化的角度，讨论译学实践变得举足轻重。由于文化涉及的层面多而广，处理翻译中文化问题的手段必然会随之而多起来。例如，源自历史事件或历史故事的典故，无论是在英译汉还是在汉译英中，都得按其本身的特点加以处理，在得到正确的译文之前，非作检索、考证(探索)不可，而恰好这又是不可或缺的。又如源自动物、植物名称的习语、惯用法或典故，真的还少不了对与之相关的文化进步研究这一步，我们知道，与人类关系最密切的文化是生态文化，在人类长期的历史发展中，动物、植物名称对人类来说，已由最初的指称名词而演变成了被赋予了社会意义、宗教意义的特殊词语，因而使其译法增添了一定的复杂性。
本书涉及文化习语、惯用语或典故，还有称谓文化、数学文化、审美文化、委婉语文化、旅游文化、饮食文化、色彩文化、专有名词文化等。书中的每个实例均涉及所有这些文化中的某一方面且来自文学作品中。本书在注重实践的同时，并未忽视相关的理论问题，如Part1就是一个很好的实证，还有能使读者更进一步学习与提高的阅读书目，以便启迪读者思考，掌握读书与研究方法，学会怎样自学与研究。
