Yesterday I tried google desktop, just out of my curiosity. So I installed it, I "experienced" it( for like half a minute) and then I uninstalled it.
In a word, it doesn't suit ordinary people - when I say "ordinary people", I mean people like me. The desktop search costs too many disk space and the "news" tab nearly useless.Plus, I think many people don't need the "memo" functionality, 'cause things we are to do often are few, and we could just "memo" them in our head. The weather reporter is useless too, we can get weather info from like everywhere, the radio, tv, newspaper, other people etc. And don't forget that many people simply don't care about the damn weather at all:-) The mail system is valuable, but we've already got gtalk, which serve this purpose pretty well already. The whole "map" thing is quite funny to me, how much of you travel a lot? how much of you need a map everyday?
And sad enough, I didn't find a way to turn off(disable) the file search function, which is the essential reason that I uninstall it, I couldn't stand a function that I don't need at all while costs me like 300+M disk space. I must have missed something out there, I did actually see a option that could pause constructing the file index, but should there be a "stop"?
Anyway, I think gtalk is enough for most people, just like MSN Messanger is too, I don't need google desk just like I don't need MSN desktop search( I tried that and threw it into the garbage can immediately, too).
